What’s your most embarrassing song currently in your Playlist?
Not all the 90s R&B on my iPod - I listen to that with pride! Probably all the "boy band" songs from the likes of Backstreet Boys, *N Sync, and yes, One Direction.
Who is your favorite storyteller?
1) Lecrae - as a Christian musician, his lyrics frequently cover the "warts and all" of life and the spiritual walk. Sometimes, it's not always pretty, but it's real and God's grace always comes through. And he has a great story of his own! 2) Steven Spielberg - his movies are usually the epitome of a high-budget blockbuster, but so many of them prove that you can think big without sacrificing a good story.
Most Amazing Encounter with Someone In Need?
The summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I went on a mission trip with my church youth group to an impoverished island in the Bahamas that had recently been hit by a major storm. We taught VBS during the day and then did fun community activities in the evening. The whole village was so eager to learn the Word and loved us visiting. I got really attached to a little 3-year-old girl named Aaliyah who was so excited that she had just gotten her first bicycle for her birthday. And I would spend the afternoons after our VBS sessions teaching her how to ride her bike. The look on her face when she finally got the hang of it is something I will never forget.
Why do you do what you do for i58:10 Media?
I absolutely love blending my passion for multimedia production and storytelling with working to change lives and build the Kingdom. Like a pastor is called to lead a church, I feel like being part of this team and mission is my calling. I love getting these stories out there and seeing how God will move. Quite frankly, this is my mission field.
Describe your family?
I was born and raised in southern Indiana and my parents are still there (but they're already thinking about becoming Oregonians when they retire.) We're all a little quirky, all pretty glass-is-half-full, and love our Indiana sports teams. (Go Pacers, Hoosiers, and Colts!) I'm an only child, but have friends I consider like brothers and sisters still in Indy and in Minnesota, where I was before. I've been married since May 2013 and my wife and I currently have a dog and a pet hedgehog. I have been very blessed to have been raised in the church and have had a fantastic circle of people who have been so influential on my life personally, spiritually, and professionally.
What is a quote that has had the biggest impact on your life?
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9) Having moved to California, Minnesota, and now Oregon without knowing a soul, I have relied so heavily on God to guide me and put the right people and opportunities in front of me. And that faith has paid off in more ways than one!
